It may seem odd that I would write a piece about body mod and art.
I write about politics, media and history, right?
Maybe, I’ll process a little bit of lived Generation X culture?
At any incarnation of our identities, we project from the inside out in vibrant and eclectic ways to say, “I am here!”
Even when we are silent and still.
As a culture, it seems like we find a caricature identity to put the suit on until it fits.
My case for the poser.
At some point, though, people exist who inspire.
You see them and no matter if they go home to their ho-hum life, their bland job or their Sears catalog family at home, on a visual snapshot in a moment, they capture your imagination and let you push your intellectual boundaries.
You are the center of your movie.
You are the only one who is in every scene and knows every Easter egg.
Everybody else in your movie plays a cameo, no matter how close or how much you love them.
You cameo in theirs.
Some people have the ability to shape the reality around them and warp the possible in the eyes who can see them.
They create their own mythos and design their own aesthetic.
They inspire you to one-up or give it a try.
“I can do that.”
We take to inspiration in many ways.
I can hold an item and see craft marks in them that give me a connection to another person who spent time.
I’ll look at people’s doodles and sketches to feel time present in that space with heavy breaths and hair pushed back or bristled with intent dashes and shades.
I’ll listen to a piece of music and connect to the human inside when I hear fingers moving up and down the strings to the next fret.
We take for granted that our whole commodified and processed existence began as meeting needs for the basics of bellies, beds and babies.
Genuine life.
That brings me to Muneflower Jewelry.
Not only is each piece crafted by hand and designed by an individual, the jewelry is crafted with biological parts which have the cottage industry of life that shaped the value in it’s own eye.
I want to speak more about the woman who designs the jewelry and adornment.
I have heard a woman say of the creator that, If they “had her confidence”, they could “take over the world.”
Which goes to my inspiration to write this.
One person can inspire a whole imagination that shapes the world around them while they work to shape themselves from the inside out.
They can be in your life for an instant.
They can be in line ahead of you at a coffee joint.
They could be the person who works with you, who you only engage with a smile at a time clock.
They could be a person on your block and you see them on their regular walk.
A muse is created in an instant, on a whim, serendipity.
How you express the inspiration is a cottage industry of it’s own.

Spectacular!
